In November 2018, Arts Visalia is pleased to host the art students of Sequoia High School for its second year, displaying the works of multiple arts classes that consist in totality of approximately 140 students, instructed by Sarah Coker. Sequoia High School offers a fresh start to students in an accepting and non-threatening atmosphere, as well as success in earning a living through vocational and career preparation. This exhibition will offer collaboration with students who feel misrepresented and suppressed in society. Sequoia High School offers both Studio Art and 3D Media. Coker is also in charge of the Art Club which provides an open platform for students to have a voice and choice of theme and media. Many of the students express the desire to become better artists and to learn new techniques by exploring their creativity and passion and have talked about how therapeutic art is to find calmness and overcome anger. The exhibition runs from October 31st through November 16th. The opening reception will be held on First Friday, November 2nd, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and is sponsored in part by Bueno Beverage Company, Tulare County Board of Supervisors, Step Up!, Valley PBS, and State Farm. Grand Opening of Arts Visalia’s children’s gallery entitled Young Imaginations Gallery will have a dedication ceremony at 5:15 p.m. on Friday, November 2nd preluding the opening reception for Sequoia High School. After having a successful Young at Art children’s summer program and exhibition, Arts Visalia wanted to provide an opportunity to its students year-round. The new Young Imaginations Gallery will display numerous works created from our 5-17 year old participants of our children’s classes. This is an exciting venture of continuing to stimulate creativity from our young generation. Join Arts Visalia on Thursday, November 22nd, Thanksgiving morning, for free face painting at the 14th Annual Race Against Hunger Kid’s Zone. This is the second year Arts Visalia is partnering with the Visalia Emergency Aid Council to provide face painting to children. All proceeds from the Race Against Hunger benefit the Visalia Emergency Aid Food Pantry which provides critical funding for food assistance to more than 1,100 families (2,500 children) in need each month. A worthy cause to support! Starting November 21st, Arts Visalia will be displaying its Annual Holiday Show & Sale. The Holiday Show & Sale extends the small gift shop space to fill our large exhibition space. Come shop from a variety of items for sale made by local talent. Gift show will run from November 21st through December 15th, with First Friday being on December 7th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Stop by and shop in support of amazing local artists. Arts Visalia will go dark for 2 weeks following the Holiday Show & Sale closing for annual maintenance. Be ready for a kick off of the New Year starting with Dr. Hsu’s photography in January. Arts Visalia’s adult and children’s art classes are ongoing at Arts Visalia.
