Job Description

The City of Visalia has one opening for an Hourly Airport Operations Worker. Position is limited to 1,000 hours per fiscal year and work approximately 20-25 hours per week. Work hours vary depending on department need.  Applicants must be able to work anytime between 7am-6pm
 Examples of Duties:
  • Refuels aircraft from trucks and the fuel island facility and ensures quality control of aviation fuels.
  • Collects cash and processes credit cards for fuel and other products and services.
  • Assists pilots and their passengers with various needs.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on various equipment such as vehicles and fuel island equipment.
  • Performs general building maintenance on airport grounds by sweeping walkways, patios and common areas, and does other related work.
  • Performs weather observations as a backup to the automated weather system.
  • Directs incoming aircraft to parking spaces and assists in tie down.
  • Assists in the administration of the Airport's Wildlife Hazard Management Program (WHMP).
  • Provides information to the public regarding City airport rules and regulations.
  • Operates City vehicles, trucks and equipment to fulfill Airport needs.
  • Performs related duties as required.
 Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license by time of appointment.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain certification from the NATA Safety 1st Line Training program within three (3) months from appointment.
~Successful candidates will be required to pass a criminal background investigation, physical examination and/or drug screen~
 Knowledge of/Skill in/Ability to:
  • Building & Grounds maintenance and custodial methods, materials and equipment.
  • Basic methods, tasks, materials and equipment used in Aircraft, Aircraft re-fueling, and Airport operations.
  • Safe and correct operation and preventive maintenance of heavy and light equipment, machines and power tools utilized at the airport.
  • Airport's Wildlife Hazard Management Program (WHMP).
  • Positions required moderate to heavy, physical work with prolonged standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, lifting, and carrying loads weighing up to 75 pounds.   Positions involve outdoor work, resulting in exposure to the weather.
